Getting The Angle Of The Good Side
Are you Getting My Good Side?
Welcome back my beautifuls for todays blog post, and today we will be talking about some camera angles we used in our movie!
Camera angles play a major role when it comes to filmmaking because they shape how a story is perceived, it can create
emotions, and shift the audiences focus. Different angles can also create tension, or create dynamics, or provide intimacy to a character. For example a low-angle shot can make a character seem powerful, while a high-angle shot can make them seem weak. Close-ups can capture emotions, while wide shots establish setting. By deciding on the type of angles we use we can enhance the storytelling of the movie, build atmosphere and even engage the audienceto start off with in the second scene we capture an over-the-shoulder shot as Gigi sits down at her makeup table. This creates an intimate moment as we see her looking at her
reflection alone, making her seem more vulnerable and closer to the audience. Then as we move on we capture a lot of close-ups of makeup products. This is because we wanted the audience to focus on those specific maku-up products as it showed the title sequence of the movie, so we wanted to draw in the focus of the audience. We use close-up once again for a similar reason, to guide the watchers attention, is when we
take a close-up of Gigi's phone to show a message she got from her dad. This implies to the audience that something is going to happen regarding her dad as we emphasized the message. Then we use a full shot to show Gigi in her environment to show how alone she is and feels. Next we used a closeup of her crying, to show her emotions and emphasize her sadness. The close-up allows the audience to really see and take in the emotions the character is going through, making her seem even more vulnerable.
As she is making her downstairs we first shot a scene for a higher angle, as we want to show a movement of her going down the stairs, however afterwards we film from the bottom of the stairs to show her waking down the stairs. We did not intend to make the angles create any significant meaning it was more of a technical shot as it was the best way to film this transition between scenery. Next, we use a medium shot along with a low angel to show Gigi getting the cake out of the fridge, this makes her seem tall and more confident, implying that she is holding out strong even though her birthday didn't exactly go as planned.
Well that is it for today my fellow fashionistas, and I hope to see you back in the next blog. Bye!
