Lighting Of The Stage

Lights on the Runway

Welcome back beautifuls for todays blog an today we will be going over the lighting used in our project.

Lighting is important aspect when it comes to film making as it can help convey the mood of a scene and set a tone. For example, a low-key lighting can create a more serious mood,

mostly used in thrillers, or horror movies. While on the other hand a high-key lighting can create a more uplifting mood which is mostly used in comedy or rom-coms. Moreover there are lightings that can help emphasize characters from the background such as three-point lighting where the main light shines at the subject with a fill light that comes from an angle of the subject to fill any sharp shades, and finally a light coming from the back of the character and this is what will really separate the character from their surroundings. Furthermore, there are also things to talk about such as what color light we want to use, a more natural light? or artificial light? So lets get to our groups thought process when it gets to the project.

First of all since we are doing a coming of age movie we wanted the audience to feel comfortable and even familiar with the scenery, we wanted to make it look like a natural everyday environment. So to achieve this we mostly used

natural light. When filming in the bedroom there were windows right in front of the character which created a great natural light for the scenes. For additional lighting later on we used some artificial light when we felt like the natural light was just not enough and made the scenery too dark, for example when we filmed downstairs, however we still used natural light when filming at the dinner table as it shines from the back of the character through windows. The lighting we used was also more of a convenience as we didn't have mush equipment to work with, but I think it turned out well as it gives sets the mood of the movie. As for our character the natural bluish light helps to convey the gloomier mood of the character.

If we had more budget for equipment the way I would change up some things is requiring stronger fill lights and main lights

so we could experiment and play more with the composition of the lights and shadows to really explore the best way to fit the movie. I would try to create more scenes with high-key lighting and add a few scenes with lower-key lighting, I think this would add to the characters mood swings and better convey it to the watcher. And thus making our character more readable for the audience. Maybe we could have also tried to shift tones using lighting throughout the movie opening.

So overall these are everything we did considering lighting. I hope to see you guys back for the next blog! be sure to leave a comment to give us some ideas and feedback, Bye!
