The Sound of Fashion

Can You Hear the Iconic Sounds

Welcome back beautiful for today’s blog post! Today I will be sharing my experience of making a SOUND STORY! I KNOW it sounds crazy what even is a sound story, well... I created a story without video ONLY sound can be heard. Now this process sure wasn't easy there are just so many things you need to pay attention to, to really be able to clearly convey the story to the listener. So, let's dive in!!

First let’s talk about the script me and my partner created. Below you can view the script to follow along the journey.

Getting ready for the club

  • ·       shower running
  • ·       turning off the shower
  • ·       stepping out
  • ·       water dripping
  • ·       blow-drying
  • ·       looking for hairbrush (picking it up)
  • ·       brushing hair
  • ·       walking into other room
  • ·       door opens-closes
  • ·       getting dressed (denim ruffling, zipper sound)
  • ·       putting on high heels
  • ·       walking downstairs

going to the club

  • ·       walking out the front door
  • ·       crickets sound
  • ·       car pulling up
  • ·       car door opens
  • ·       car door closes
  • ·       Friend in car: „Hey girly”
  • ·       music in the car on the way
  • ·       two people opening then closing car door

getting in the club

  • ·       walking to the club together
  • ·       club music in the background low volume
  • ·       people chattering in background
  • ·       „ID”
  • ·       ruffle in bag
  • ·       pull out Id
  • ·       „here”
  • ·       walk inside club
  • ·       music becomes louder
  • ·       people talking becomes louder

At first when me and my partner started writing the script even though I hate to admit we were a bit at lost it took us some time to think through a scenario that could be replicated by only using sound. At first, we thought about a model getting ready for the runway, but we ended up throwing out this idea as even though I'm sure that my fellow fashionistas could not have loved a better sound story than that it was a bit off from my partners blog theme and also just did not have enough ideas for it. So, then we came up with the idea of getting ready to go to the club. For this story we had a lot of ideas so after we wrote down all the sounds, we could include we narrowed it down to the most important ones to create our story without making it too messy.

As our second step we went on to creating the sounds to put to use. Me and my partner had differing schedules so we simply split up the what sounds she be doing as well as what was up for my responsibility, for example she made recorded the sound for hair brushing and I recorded the sound of the  shower running. Some sounds were easier to put together than others, it was easy how to figure out to make high heel sounds, but it was more challenging to figure out how to make the sound of someone putting on clothes. Overall, we had a fun time doing this part of the project! Below you can view our foley stage video:

However, afterwards is when the harder parts began and started to face more challenges. We decided to use capcut to edit our videos sounds together, but neither of us was an expert at using this application as well as editing so it was definitely a time-consuming job to get it done. We had to restart or make lots of corrections during the editing due to our lack of experience of doing such things. However, one of our friends came to out rescue! She was more experienced at editing, so she helped us figure out how to use capcut and afterwards made our process of editing the sounds together smoother. In the end it came out quite alright so you should click below and listen to it yourself:

That is it for todays blog my fellow fashionistas! Be sure to leave a comment on your thoughts on this sound story, maybe even try to make one yourself who knows how much fun you will have! I'll see you guys with updates shortly, until then take care of yourself beautiful!
