Welcome back my beautifuls in todays blog I will be discussing my reflection I had regarding the project!

To do my reflection I decided to draw an animation to illustrate and do a voiceover, I also included some slides to condense some information. I think the animation is very cute and kind of an attention hook. It took some time to finally complete it as I first drew the animation and timed each frame so it matches the voiceover. Then I edited the two together using Capcut. I think it turned out pretty good. You can view it below:

Then below you can also view the transcript as well as the questions I have answered:

Question 1: How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues?

Hello, my name is Gyongy Liposits and I am the creator of the film opening eighteen. , it follows the main character a girl, Gigi, who is just turning 18 but does not yet feel ready for adulthood. this is a coming-of-age/slice of life genre, and we used typical conventions for the genre, by having the main character be a teenager, including a significant milestone, in this case the loosing of someone, however this somewhat also challenges common conventions as usually these milestones relate to first-love and friendships, and the struggle with parents, in this case her and the Dad’s relationship. All of these conventions are often used by coming-of-age movies. It represents issues that occur often in life such as death and mourning, moreover, the responsibility and pressure of growing up, as the movie centers around Gigi losing her mother and how it affects her life and going into adult hood. It shows how the impact grief can not only affect a person but their relations towards people. It also represents, although not the main focus, single-parent struggles, as her dad is absent most of the time due to the responsibility, he has to take on by himself and how it affects Gigi. By these occurrences Gigi’s personality represents the struggles of these events and how she manages to go through it, representing a healthy journey of self-growth.

Question 2: How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text?

What grabs the audience’s attention is the relatability of the film. Either relating to loosing a loved one or struggling through teenage years. Thus the movie opening can seem familiar to the audience; it can make people self-reflect as they may have had a similar situation in their lives. To get this onto a movie theater the consideration of the budget and funding along with the target audience is important, the age audience would focus on more younger people between ages of 13-18, using an everyday like environment, such as a comfy home, school, and interactions presenting a more childish mindset of the main character in the beginning. Funding could come from studios and independent investors. To market it Trailers and posters can be used along with online ads released months before the film to build up hype. Social media could also be a good tool for advertising such as TikTok and Instagram videos by being able to reach a large member of a younger audience by going viral and using hashtags and challenges to encourage interaction with the audience. Then finally its release could be debuted on Netflix for instant access.

Question 3: How did your production skills develop throughout this project?

I liked the overall process of filming this project, however learned how time consuming the planning and creating that goes into making a movie. There are new things I learned about movie making such as creating a mood board and storyboarding before production to make the filming a smoother process. Moreover, before we started our filming, I tried out editing for the first time, so I learned how to add sound/music to a video, how to cut film and music, how to do transitions between clips, and how to upload onto YouTube. More importantly I also learned some acting skills while acting for the role of Gigi, which peaked my interest a lot. To be able to give emotion to a character was a lot harder than I initially thought. In the movie opening Gigi had a very drastic change in her mood. Going from joyful to sad. To create such contrast through acting required more skills than I had, but I managed to make the best out of it and learned from it as well. It was a new and enjoyable experience for me so I might even learn more about it in the future.

Question 4: How did you integrate technologies- software, hardware and online – in this project?

Throughout this project it required me to use editing software such as Capcutto cut down the film opening to the required time. As for the filming process an iPhone was used and during filming I learned that how hard it actually is to keep the camera steadier when it is being held, so that is why a tripod was used as it made it more easy to stabilize movement. Also creating a sharp focus when filming had to be paid attention to.
